Restoration of the interior of the Baptistry. This included the dome, which was painted in 'al secco' around 1100 A.D., and the walls, which were painted between 1100 and 1500. The walls were executed in true fresco. The Dome of the Baptistry presented particular problems due not to the nature of the paint, which was not true fresco, but 'al secco.' After 800 years, the paint was literally hanging from the wall and had to be consolidated inch by inch with syringes and spatulas. | |
