Restoration of a ceiling painted in the late 1500's possibly by Il Sodoma. portraits of Roman Noblemen. The ceiling was executed in true fresco. Approximately one-third of the ceiling had been damaged and lost through the centuries. The remaining two-thirds was completely covered over with several layers of "whitewash" in this century when the castle was used as a prison.

During and After: All of the extant frescoes were uncovered and conserved. Sections that were completely missing were left white.

During and After: Detail of a nobleman during the removal of the whitewash. After further cleaning of accumulated grime, paint losses were inpainted with a reversible water based inpainting medium.
