Complete Renovation of the painted surfaced of the central nave and ceiling (10 bays), the contrafacade, and the dome above the alter. The artwork was done in true fresco. It was executed between 1560-1565 by Giralamo Lattanzio Gambara and Giralamo Bedoli. The ceilings and walls were painted in true fresco, with vast areas painted 'al secco'. The restoration included huge figurative scenes from the life of Christ, broad decorative elements on all arches and vaults, and extensive gilding by mission throughout the Duomo. Treatments included cleaning, consolidation, regilding, filling of cracks (some several inches wide and many feet long), and inpainting. It also included mapping out all major cracks, all 'giornate' and all areas painted in 'a secco'.
After Conservation: One of the 10 bays of the nave.
